Redbricks School Steps Towards Saving Our Environment

The children of Redbricks believe in conserving our environment, shaping their belief  the children of Redbricks became a part of the "Create to Inspire school programme 2014-15" an initiation of Microsoft and German cooperation in collaboration with Centre for Environment Education and a German NGO, The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH or GIZ. The children along with the teachers were excited to take their tiny steps towards contributing their bit for saving the environment. One of the major drives was collection of e-waste with the help of Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) workers, our school collected a mighty 65 Kg. Of e-waste where our children and parents got aware of the importance proper disposal of electronic waste. Children of primary section as a part of their SE module planted saplings, children utilized the old newspapers to make paper bags, Once the bags were made and colored children started a distribution drive. They distributed the handmade newspaper bags to all the people around belonging to different strata of the society as people everywhere around us are using the slow poison called polythene. They presented their handmade bags to the drivers, peons, teachers, the school counselor, The Principal and even to the guests from New Jersey who visited our school campus. Children also studied their electricity bills and even plotted graphs to analyze the usage of electricity in each class hence they took the initiative of saving electricity by switching off the lights and fans when not in use.

On 22nd April 2015, closing of the Create to Inspire programme 2014-15 was organized at CEE, Ahmedabad. The coordinators of the programme at CEE Ms.Meghna Chawla and Ms. Juhi Mishra represented the school along-with the children of Classes 5,6 and 7- Yash Pandya, Aryan Shah, Disha Sharma, Prasheel Gandhi and Dev Shah. Children took part in the presentation where they presented their activities done as a part of the programme,. They were also a part of the poster making and slogan writing competitions, which proved out to be an enriching experience for them. The programme closed down with an award function where Redbricks School was certified for the completion of the of the Create to Inspire Programme 2014-15 successfully. It was a proud moment for the teachers Ms. Meghna Chawla and Ms. Juhi Mishra who were awarded under the category of "inspiring leadership by a teacher" in the presence of Mr. Kartikey Sarabhai and other dignitaries.

We believe that a small step by the little children of Redbricks school will prove to be a butterfly effect, wings fluttered by a small butterfly can lead to a hurricane same way the message conveyed by the children will reach many people as the people inspired will inspire their near and dear ones and so on and so forth. We trust that one day our nation and our planet will be a sustainable place to live.
